Bakari Sellers

Bakari Sellers is crossing the border into the land of Carolina blue to get a little green for his S.C. lieutenant governor run.

A Charlotte couple -- Gaston County Assistant District Attorney Jeff Jackson and his wife, Marisa -- is hosting a fundraiser Sunday at their home for the Democratic S.C. state representative.

Tickets cost $35.14 to $500.14 for the event, according to a Facebook invitation.

Sellers, a Columbia lawyer who lives in Denmark, is the only Democrat to declare for the 2014 race.

Charleston developer Pat McKinney, a political newcomer who is an ally of Republican Gov. Nikki Haley, has announced he will run.

Republican Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell has said he plans to to seek the seat that he was elevated to last year after Ken Ard resigned. McConnell was required by the state constitution to leave his post as leader of the state senate.
