— The statement issued by the attorney for former State Sen. Dick Elliott, a North Myrtle Beach Republican who was sued Tuesday on accusations that he fondled two women working in his real estate office:

"Mr. Elliott categorically denies each and every one of the allegations -- they are completely without basis. As he has done with false statements and challenges throughout his distinguished political and business career, he will meet these allegations head on and vigorously defend them. He is absolutely confident that he will prevail in this action because there is no basis in fact for the assertions. He stated that he is confident that plaintiffs' true motivation will be exposed."
