— Senate Finance chairman Hugh Leatherman spent a few days this week in Biloxi, Miss., for an annual joint meeting of trade groups of Southeastern states and Japan. The Florence Republican tweeted a photograph and message from the Southeast U.S.–Japan and Japan/U.S. Southeast Associations meeting. Gov. Nikki Haley and her husband, Michael, attended the same conference last year in Tokyo.

Leatherman tweeted:

"I thought you might like to know I have just returned from the 36th Annual Southeast U.S./Japan Conference. I was honored to be chosen to lead the South Carolina delegation and to speak before the entire conference, along with the other speakers shown in the attached picture.

"The speakers included Governors, Secretaries of State and Department of Commerce heads. Mr. William Yates and Mr. Atsutoshi Nishida served as Co-Chairmen and are pictured in the center.

"In my remarks to the Japanese companies, I urged the Japanese leaders to locate to our area. I am a firm believer in doing everything possible to bring good jobs to the area for our people. I have always been, and will always be, all about jobs."
