Friday letters: Leaders can’t be counted on

Congress Returns

J. SCOTT APPLEWHITE — AP

— Whether South Carolina’s congressional extremists are confused in regard to the economic best interests of their constituents, or clear-headed on this subject but lacking in the political courage to act in accordance with their understanding, or scandalously unconcerned, a repetition of their recent willingness to risk the collapse of the U.S. economy seems all too likely.

Reps. Jeff Duncan, Joe Wilson, Mark Sanford, Tom Rice, Trey Gowdy and Mick Mulvaney and Sen. Tim Scott cannot be counted on to make wise use of their positions of power. Their congressional service should be discontinued.
