— Columbia police late Saturday afternoon said an elderly man who walked away from a hospital where he was being treated has been found in Virginia.

Interim Chief Ruben Santiago on Saturday morning encouraged citizens to call CRIMESTOPPERS if they could assist in locating the senior citizen.

Paul Richard Wirth, 84, was last seen at about 8:30 p.m. Friday at a Columbia hospital where he was receiving treatment.

Police were working with hospital staff and family to help find him. A family member told investigators that Wirth suffers from dementia and has other medical concerns requiring medication.
