November 23, 2013

— The Columbia Police Department made its first arrrest because of monitoring live security cameras in Five Points.

Tony Ashmore, 49, is accused of tampering with vehicles, said Jennifer Timmons, spokeswoman for the department.

Earlier in the week, Police Chief Ruben Santiago announced in a news release that about 50 surveillance cameras placed by the city in Columbia hospitality districts such as Five Points and the Vista would be monitored live.
