SCHOOLS

RICHLAND NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL’S yearbook received an All-State rating from the South Carolina Scholastic Press Association. Maggie McElveen and Hannah Hunsaker won first place in spread design; Callie Powell won third place in candid photography; and Whitney Lewis won first place in the fall photography contest.

DENT MIDDLE SCHOOL, DUTCH FORK MIDDLE SCHOOL, HAND MIDDLE SCHOOL AND MEADOW GLEN MIDDLE SCHOOL have advanced to the S.C. Bar Middle School Mock Trial State Competition.

RICHLAND NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL students Noelle Kruse and Elizabeth Anne Matthews have been named National Merit Semifinalists. Students Sarah Brotman and Qi Jin were commended by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

A.C. MOORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL visual arts teacher Randall Clamp has been named the 2013-2014 S.C. Elementary Art Educator of the Year.

COMMUNITY

CITY OF COLUMBIA has been awarded a $98,850 Recreational Trails Program grant from the S.C. Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department. The grant will be used for the Taylor Street Trail.

MILITARY

AIR NATIONAL GUARD PVT. TRAVIS L. TURNIPSEED has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. He is a 2010 graduate of Irmo High School.

ARMY PFC. CHRISTOPHER S. CAROLINA has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. He is the son of Chaundra Carolina of Elgin.

ARMY PFC. GERALD E. WOOD has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Kelly Anne Brubach of Lugoff.
