Woman taken to hospital following assault in SE Richland Co.

— A woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries on Monday after being assaulted by an acquaintance.

Sgt. Curtis Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said the aggravated assault took place late Monday afternoon on Minervaville Road in Southeast Richland County.

Wilson said the victim was hit several times with a closed fist on the upper body. He said the suspect then tried to sexually assault the victim.

A friend came to victim’s aid and drove her to Palmetto Baptist Hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Richland County sheriff’s deputies are working to locate the suspect but provided no additional information.
