Monday Forum: Richland officials’ hope: Perhaps this too shall pass.

December 2, 2013

— Is anyone surprised by the latest voting mess in Richland County? Same old song and dance — the “appropriate individuals will be held accountable” (maybe when hell freezes over). Here’s a surprise: The Richland County election board did not criticize or ask the elections director to take any responsibility.

What about the Richland County legislative delegation that appoints these individuals to the election board? Most of the current members were serving during the last voting debacle. Apparently their solution is this: If we lay low, it too will pass.

Former county elections chief Lillian McBride was not demoted; she resigned to another high-paying job.

Maybe if responsible, competent individuals were serving our county, these problems would not occur on a regular basis.
