— A 13-year-old Camden Middle School student was taken into custody Tuesday after the school’s assistant principal found a.38 Smith & Wesson and box cutter inside the student’s locker.

According to a Camden Police Department incident report, Assistant Principal John Mastrovito, received a note from a teacher who was told a student may have had a gun and knife on campus.

A police officer and Mastrovito found a loaded gun and box cutter inside the student’s book bag, which was inside a locker.

Police took the student into custody.

Police said the student told them he brought the weapons to school because he felt threatened by other students he owed money.

The incident report also states the student said the gun belonged to his grandfather who responded to the school after finding out the weapon was missing.

The student has been suspended from school pending an expulsion hearing.
