State Sen. Vincent Sheheen, a Democratic candidate in the 2014 gubernatorial election, will visit Sea Pines Center on Hilton Head Island on Thursday.

Sheheen will chat with Joe's Lobster Rolls food truck owner Tony Herndon about the challenges of starting a small business in Beaufort County, according to a press release. He will also discuss policies to support South Carolina small businesses.

"Small businesses are drivers of economic growth and the way to build a strong economy from within South Carolina that will build prosperity for the long-term," Sheheen said. "Governor (Nikki) Haley's policies stack the deck against small business owners, and the recruitment-only approach to jobs is a one-way ticket to mediocrity."

Sheheen lost to Gov. Haley, a Republican, in the 2010 election.

The meet-and-greet begins at 3 p.m. at the Shops at Sea Pines Center on Lighthouse Road off the Greenwood Circle.
