— A 38-year-old Lowcountry man missing since he walked away from a crash last week was found dead Thursday in the Cooper River.

The body of James Brown of Wando was recovered by Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury at 11:15 a.m. Thursday. The body was found in the river, across from the former Charleston Naval Base, on the Berkeley County side.

Brown has been missing since Nov. 24, when he was last seen walking away from a crash on Highway 526 (Don Holt) bridge. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Department was working the case as a missing person.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
