Sex offender sought since 2005 arrested

— A 32-year-old man recently arrested by law enforcement in the Northeast is a registered sex offender in Orangeburg County whose location has been unknown for eight years.

Joseph Blakely Jones, formerly of 1233 Brandon St., Orangeburg, was arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Marshal New York/ New Jersey Regional Task Force, according to a press release from the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department.

Jones had an outstanding warrant for failing to register as a sex offender in October 2005, according to the press release. He was included in a May 2013 press release after investigators conducted a compliance check of sex offenders.

“For eight years, Jones has eluded law enforcement,” said Sheriff Leroy Ravenell in the release. “This year his luck ran out.”
