COLUMBIA — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said her husband is expected to come home before Christmas after a nearly year-long S.C. National Guard deployment to Afghanistan.
"They said they were going to give us 24 to 48 hours notice," she said Tuesday. "It's like having a baby. You know it's going to happen, you're just waiting til when. We're getting close.
Michael Haley, 43, is a captain in the guard serving with an agriculture-training group in Afghanistan.
He is believed to be the first spouse of a sitting governor to deploy to a combat zone with the National Guard.
