Opponents of quarry near Batesburg-Leesville win round

tflach@thestate.comDecember 10, 2013

— Lexington County Council agreed Tuesday to keep a lightly traveled dirt road open, a step wanted by foes battling a proposed quarry near Batesburg-Leesville.

Vulcan Materials Co. is seeking to close Stutman Road as part of its effort to open a 300-acre stone mine in the area in a few years.

The company could win its bid to close the road as a safety measure in subsequent proceedings, council members told residents.
