Wednesday letters: BI-LO promises to meet The Pig’s standards

December 11, 2013

— As the vice president for BI-LO stores in the Columbia area, I would like to express how excited we are about the conversion of Piggly Wiggly stores to the BI-LO banner.

We know the store associates are a big reason customers love to shop at these stores, and that is why we are thrilled to have so many of them join our family. While the name on the buildings may change, the people running them don’t have to. Together, we look forward to exchanging what it means to be local and working together to run even greater stores.

Being local is a foundation of our business strategy, whether it is offering locally sourced products or supporting the community organizations that are important to our shoppers. It would be disingenuous for me to say these stores are not going to change — but some change can be good. When each Piggly Wiggly store reopens as a BI-LO, we believe customers will be pleasantly surprised.

As our president and CEO recently wrote, “the folks at Piggly Wiggly have set a high standard for us.” We will strive to meet that challenge.
