Jailed man charged with stealing trailer, ice cream maker

— A 44-year-old West Columbia man charged with two recent burglaries was arrested Wednesday.

James Randolph Metze, off 1911 Augusta Road, was charged with grand larceny.

The arrest warrant alleges he stole a utility trailer from a home on Scenic Drive near West Columbia on Nov. 25 and an ice cream maker from a home on Wire Road near Gilbert on Dec. 10, according to a press release from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

The two items have a combined value of $2,232.

Metze is accused of using a Dodge pickup truck to steal a utility trailer. Detectives found the Nostalgia Elect ice cream maker in the back of the truck, which he was driving, according to the release.
