5-star LB chooses Ohio State over Clemson

Anderson Independent MailDecember 16, 2013

— Six years ago, then-Florida Urban Meyer lost out to Dabo Swinney for C.J. Spiller.

Earlier this year, Ohio State and Meyer wanted DeShaun Watson and Demarre Kitt, and didn’t get them.

But not this time.

The Buckeyes’ coach returned to the South and picked up one of the nation’s premier recruits on Monday, at Clemson’s expense.

The Tigers and Buckeyes battled down to the wire for top-rated middle linebacker Raekwon McMillan, who chose Ohio State and made a nationally-televised announcement.

The 6-3, 250-pound five-star linebacker had also considered Alabama, Auburn and Georgia, but ended up going with the school considered to be his initial leader.

Both Clemson and Ohio State made their final pitches to McMillan on Sunday.

McMillan was a frequent visitor to Death Valley during the fall, and had developed a friendship with incoming Clemson signees Deshaun Watson and Milan Richard, among others.
