Last weekend’s rain boosted 2013 into the top 30 wettest years on record in Columbia and put the top 20 within reach.
The rainfall total for the year hit 51.53 Sunday, ranking 26th wettest in the 126 years official records have been kept in Columbia. With at least a couple more potential rain-producing fronts moving through in the next two weeks, 2013 could move up a few more notches. Three inches more would get 2013 into the top 20, according to records at the Southeast Regional Climate Center.
The average annual rainfall in Columbia is 46.61 inches, and the wettest year on record was 1964, with 70.53 inches.
