Columbia, SC — Cindi Scoppe recently wrote about a friend who complained about being stuck in traffic behind a Prius (“Trying too hard to find patterns,” Dec. 10).
As a hybrid driver, my observation is that others are indeed stuck behind me, but I’m driving the speed limit. (I don’t drive a Prius, but my observation is that they drive faster than I do.) The only way I can reach Toyota’s advertised mileage is by meticulously sticking to the speed limit, watching the stop lights and easing off after a stop.
When I was younger I drove with a lead foot, shooting from one stop light to the next (where I had to screech to a halt, and repeat). I see my old self daily in others. They can break the law; it is my right to obey it.
