PROVOST ACADEMY SOUTH CAROLINA has named Stephanie Cagle as its new executive director.

LEXINGTON 1 students won first and second place award at the S.C. FinanceChallenge. First-place team members were Lexington High School students Brian Farchione, Annie Hu and Angella Jiang, and River Bluff High School student Freddy Huang. Second-place team members were Lexington High School students Mitchell Bauschka, Matthew Keane, Michael Harrison and Andrew McMillan.

BUSBEE CREATIVE ARTS ACADEMY has been named a Reward School for Performance by the S.C. Elementary and Secondary Education Act/Federal Accountability System. The award recognizes the top 40 highest performing Title I schools in the state based on the 2013 PASS test results.

LEXINGTON, RIVER BLUFF AND WHITE KNOLL HIGH SCHOOL teams participated in the annual Walk to Cure Diabetes held by the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation Palmetto Chapter. The teams raised more than $7,500 for type 1 diabetes research.


LEXINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT has promoted two correctional officers. James M. Davenport Jr. and Jenise Durant, both of Lexington, will serve as field training officers for a shift of correctional officers who supervise inmates in housing units at the Detention Center.


AIR NATIONAL GUARD AIRMAN CHINNON K. HINTON has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of DeWayne and Cynthia Footes of Eastover.

U.S. MARINE CORPS PFC. SAMUEL J. TAYLOR has graduated from Parris Island Recruit Training Depot in Beaufort. He is the son of Louise and Fred Taylor of Gilbert.

NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT NICHOLAS R. BAXLEY has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of John D. Ard of Columbia and Susan M. Baxley of Irmo.

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD 2ND LT. JERRY R. HINTON has been commissioned in the U.S. Army following his graduation from the University of South Carolina. He is the son of Teresa Johnston of Columbia.

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD 2ND LT. JONATHAN T. GARCIA has been commissioned in the U.S. Army following his graduation from the University of South Carolina. He is the son of Leonard and Esperanza Garcia of Columbia.

ARMY RESERVE PVT. TYNESIA V. DUFFIE has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. She is the daughter of LeTondria Duffie of Irmo.
