Boy, 11, charged with attempted murder after stabbing

(Rock Hill) HeraldDecember 24, 2013

— A 14-year-old boy was stabbed in a knife fight on Monday night, according to police.

A fight broke out between a 14-year-old and an 11-year-old boy somewhere along S. Congress St. and Highway 321 around 6:25 p.m. yesterday.

The 11-year-old boy is being charged with attempted murder, according to York Police Lt. Rich Caddell.

The 14-year-old boy was first transported to Piedmont Medical Center where the knife was removed from his back. He was later flown to Carolinas Medical Center for further medical attention.

According to police, there were more than 200 people gathered around the fight by the time officers arrived on scene. The parents of both children have been notified of the stabbing.

The 11-year-old boy is currently in the custody of the state’s juvenile justice department in Columbia and has had prior history with police.

According to Caddell, because the boy is under 13 years of age, the criminal charge will most likely be handled in family court.
