Wednesday letters: Christmas less merry these days

December 25, 2013

— Over the past few generations, the trend in the United States has been to attempt to restrict the mention of God and religion in every aspect of daily life. During that same time we have seen an increase in divorce, drug usage, and gun violence. Recently, I heard ads for a Youth Ballistic Backpack and child-sized bulletproof protective wear by a company called Amendment II.

I certainly never imagined a “Merry Christmas” that included ballistic armor wrapped in Christmas paper.
