— The Cayce Riverwalk will remain closed due to dangers from flood waters, Cayce spokeswoman Ashley Hunter said Monday.

The Riverwalk originally closed on Thursday and was to be reopened on Monday. After portions of the trail were opened briefly on Monday, the entire trail was later shut down as the river is now expected to crest in the coming days.

Also, all emergency call boxes are being removed.

Hunter said the closure is s a safety precaution for the residents and visitors to the City of Cayce. “We know that the Riverwalk is a place where people in the Midlands like to go for exercise and recreation; however water levels continue to rise. The City will work to reopen the Riverwalk as soon as possible but for now citizen safety is our top priority,” Hunter said in a Monday release.
