Holiday hoops continues at Keenan, Chapin

The holiday basketball tournament season continues this week with the start of two Midlands-based events on Friday – The Claw Classic at Chapin and the venerable Capital City Classic at Keenan.

For many years, the Capital City Classic was staged at Allen University, but moved out of downtown Columbia with the opening of the new Keenan school at Pisgah Churcxh Road and Wilson Boulevard.

The CCC field again features eight boys and eight girls teams. Play runs Friday at Saturday with placement games on Monday.

Here is the first day tournament schedule:

Capital City Classic boys

Brookland-Cayce vs. Lancaster (11:30 a.m.); Columbia vs. Belton-Honea Path (2:30 p.m.); A.C. Flora vs. Laurens (5:30 p.m.); Keenan vs. Heathwood Hall (8:30 p.m.).

Capital City Classic girls

A.C. Flora vs. Aquinas, GA (10 a.m.); Myrtle Beach vs. Hephzibah, GA (1 p.m.); Spring Valley vs. Newberry (4 p.m.); Keenan vs. Blythewood (7 p.m.).

There will be eight games on Saturday. The championship games on Monday are set at 7 p.m. (girls) and 8:30 p.m. (boys).

The Claw Classic runs Friday and Saturday at Chapin with a similar format of eight boys and eight girls teams. No boys schedule was provided.

Claw Classic girls

Richland NE vs. Mid-Carolina (9 a.m.); Gilbert vs. Belton-Honea Path ( 9 a.m.); Laurence Manning Academy vs. Wilson (10:30 a.m.); Chapin vs. Swansea (noon). Second round games are scheduled at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The girls championship game is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday with the boys to follow.
