Richland County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Sgt. Curtis Wilson said deputies spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Candlelight Drive on Bluff Road early Tuesday morning.

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle at Bluff Road and Eastway Park, but the driver wouldn’t pull over.

Sgt. Wilson said the vehichle sped up and continued onto several streets after sirens had been turned on.

The deputy attempted to approach the vehicle when it came to a stop at a dead end on Crestlight Drive. Sgt. Wilson said that is when the suspect fired shots at the deputy and sped away towards Avalon Drive.

Deputies then found the abandoned vehicle after it had crashed into trashcans.

Sgt. Wilson said police believe they have possibly identified the suspect through tips, but have not released any names.
