— A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing shots at a Richland County Sheriff’s deputy who attempted to pull him over Tuesday morning.

Dexter Fuller, 26, was arrested Tuesday evening and has also been charged with failure to stop for blue lights.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Sgt. Curtis Wilson said deputies attempted to stop Fuller at Bluff Road and Eastway Park around 1 a.m. Tuesday after they saw him driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

Sgt. Wilson said Fuller sped up and continued onto several streets after sirens had been turned on.

The deputy attempted to approach the vehicle when it came to a stop at a dead end on Crestlite Drive.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Fuller was ordered to exit the vehicle, and that is when he fired shots at the deputy.

Sheriff Lott said Fuller sped away, crashed the vehicle into trashcans on Camino Court, then left the area on foot.

Fuller has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
