The State's Josh Kendall named top sportswriter in S.C.

Josh Kendall, The State’s Gamecocks football beat reporter, has been named Sportswriter of the Year in the state of South Carolina by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Kendall, who also contributes to, has won other state and national sportswriting awards, including from the Associated Press Sports Editors and the South Carolina Press Association.

Radio play-by-play announcer Jeff McCarragher of the College of Charleston radio network was named Sportscaster of the Year in S.C.

NBC’s Mike Emrick is the national Sportscaster of the Year and Sports Illustrated’s Peter King is the national Sportswriter of the Year. Marv Albert and Rick Reilly were elected to the NSSA Hall of Fame.

Finalists for the awards were nominated by NSSA members and final balloting took place during in December. The winners will be honored during the NSSA Awards Weekend, June 7-9 in Salisbury, N.C.
