Davis, White win short dance at nationals

Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Heavy favorites Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the short dance Friday at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Davis and White, the reigning world champions and five-time defending national champs, posted a record-breaking score of 80.69, moving a step closer to what would be a record sixth title at the event.

The pair won silver at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Madison Chock and Evan Bates finished second behind Davis and White with 73.41 points. Siblings Maia and Alex Shibutani were third with 68.00.

The top three teams after Saturday's free dance will make the U.S. team for next month's Sochi Olympics.
