Flood warning issued in Columbia through Tuesday

— The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Congaree River at Columbia affecting Richland, Calhoun and Lexington Counties.

The last two days of heavy rain, coupled with planned resevoir releases is expected to produce flooding along the Congaree River at Carolina Eastman, south of Columbia.

Measured Saturday, the Congaree river was still 3 feel below the 115.0 foot flood stage but forecasters believe the river wil continue to rise through Tuesday morning, cresting at 120.6 feet. At 119 feet, extensive flooding is expected at the Congaree National Park and nearby farm land, the weather service said.
