Saturday evening, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Congaree River at Columbia affecting Richland, Lexington and Calhoun counties.
Two days of heavy rain, coupled with planned reservoir releases, is expected to produce flooding along the Congaree River at the Carolina Eastman plant, south of Columbia.
Measured Saturday, the Congaree river was still 3 feel below its 115.0 foot flood stage, but forecasters believe the river will continue to rise through Tuesday morning, cresting at 120.6 feet. At 119 feet, extensive flooding is expected at the Congaree National Park and on nearby farm land, the weather service said.
