CONVERSATIONS ON THE CIVIL WAR, 1864: Tracy Power, author of “Lee’s Miserables: Life in the Army of Northern Virginia from the Wilderness to Appomattox,” will speak from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday in the Capstone House Campus Room on Barnwell Street. SOUTH CAROLINA STATE LIBRARY CENTER FOR THE BOOK: Author James L. Underwood will talk about his book, “Deadly Censorship: Murder, Honor and Freedom of the Press,” as part of the library’s Speaker @ the Center program, Jan. 23 from noon-1 p.m., 1500 Senate St. Books will be available for purchase and autographing. ONE BOOK, ONE COLUMBIA: The 2014 pick is Pat Conroy’s “My Reading Life.” A monthlong series of programming will begin in February, culminating with Conroy’s appearance at the Township Auditorium on Feb. 27. S.C. BOOK FESTIVAL 2014: The 2014 S.C. Book Festival will be held May 16-18 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Exhibitor applications are now being taken through April 15. Author submissions will be taken through March 1. More information is available at www.scbookfestival.org.
