Sunday letters: Are legislators above the law?

— The House Ethics Committee dismissed charges against state Rep. Bill Chumley because he did not knowingly violate the law.

For the average citizen, ignorance of the law is not a valid defense. It does not surprise me state legislators would consider ignorance a defense for one of their colleagues.
