— Greg Pearce, one of Richland County Council's longest-serving members, will seek re-election this year.

Pearce, 65, acknowledged struggling with the decision but said he decided to run for a fifth term because he wants to see through to completion several major construction projects.

One of just two Republicans on the 11-member council, he represents District 6, redrawn to take in much of Forest Acres in addition to the affluent Heathwood and Lake Katharine areas.

Pearce is an expert on the budget. Additionally, he is a consistent advocate for groups that include Columbia Area Mental Health and the Palmetto Health hospitals, Historic Columbia Foundation and the Columbia Museum of Art.

He retired as a clinical psychologist and has served on the council since 1999.
