Memorial serivce planned for Capt. Joseph Pellicci

— A memorial service for Capt. Joseph Pellicci of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department will be held Friday.

The service, with a visitation to follow, will take place at 4 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church at 7582 Woodrow St., Irmo.

Pellicci, a longtime officer with several Midlands law enforcement agencies, passed away this week. He was 53.

Pellicci supervised the sheriff department’s Special Services Division, which included the School Resource Officer Program, Project HOPE and Handicap Parking Programs. He initially joined the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in 1997 as a public information officer.

Pellicci began his career working as a reporter at WLTX-TV and then became a public information officer for the S.C. Highway Patrol and then the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

Pellicci is survived by his wife, two children and a son-in-law who is a Richland County sheriff’s deputy.
