— S.C. First Gentleman Michael Haley was appointed to the American Red Cross of Central S.C. Chapter's board of directors.

Haley returned last month after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan with the S.C. National Guard. He works for the guard in strategic planning.

“We are thrilled and honored to have Mr. Haley join our Red Cross family," Bill Cronin, executive director for the American Red Cross Central SC Chapter, said in a statement. "We feel confident that his professional experience, his track record for excellence, his long history of volunteer service, and his strong ties to Columbia and the American Red Cross show that he will make a strong, positive impact on our chapter and on our community."

The Central South Carolina Chapter covers Richland, Lexington, Calhoun, Fairfield, Newberry, Orangeburg, and Saluda counties.

“The American Red Cross is an incredible organization, and has touched my life since the age of 10 (with a CPR course), so I feel humbled to give back,” Haley said in a statement.
