Thursday letters: Jesus embraces whosoever

January 16, 2014

Larry Knight stated in his Dec. 30 letter that despite what the Bible says in John 3:16, Jesus only came for Jewish sinners (“Christianity not what it’s cracked up to be”).

But I don’t see how we can ignore John 3:16: “For God so loved the World that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life.”

I found out as a 12-year-old child that I was a “whosoever.” John 3:17 also tells us “God sent not His son into the world to condemn the world; but through Him might be saved.”

Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is a Christian. The Bible tells us in Romans 10:9-10 what makes a Christian: “That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus; and shall believe with thou heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
