Sumter County man dead after collision with Bishopville police officer

BISHOPVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT

— A man was killed and a Bishopville police officer was hospitalized after a collision in Sumter County around 10:50 p.m. Friday, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Vincent Jackson, 24, of Sumter County was identified as the man who died, said Sumter County Coroner Harvin Bullock.

Bishopville’s Cpl. Roniea Conyers, 35, was wearing a seatbelt and traveling with her police car’s lights on, but the siren off, when the accident occurred at Colony Road and U.S. 15, according to the Highway Patrol.

Conyers was transported to the hospital, Bullock said.
