Tuesday letters: Local community lost on Costco

January 21, 2014

— The letter writer who was pleased that local government refused to give Costco enough incentives to open a store here obviously has never been to a Walmart and doesn’t understand economic ramifications.

How about the several hundred jobs that Costco would provide to locals? How about the millions of dollars in locally generated revenue? How much would it have cost taxpayers if incentives had been provided? Just another narrow-minded “we have it all here already” Columbia resident.
