— A robbery suspect shot and killed himself outside of a Sumter jewelry store on Thursday morning, police say.

Just before 8 a.m., a masked and armed robbery suspect approached two employees as they arrived at Galloway and Moseley Jewelers on North Guignard Drive, according to a release from the Sumter Police Department.

One of the employees, who holds a concealed weapons permit, pulled out a weapon and pointed it at the suspect. The suspect then pointed his own weapon to his head and fired a deadly shot.

Emergency personnel pronounced the suspect dead on the scene. The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the suspect.

Sumter Police continue to investigate the incident.
