COLUMBIA, SC — S.C. Sen. Lee Bright, one of four GOP challengers running for Lindsey Graham's U.S. senate seat, is raffling off a semi-automatic military-style rifle.
The Spartanburg Republican sent emails to supporters Thursday with word of a giveaway of an AR-15 rifle.
"In the wake of the horrific tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, gun-grabbers were sure they had the votes to RAM gun control into law," the email said. "Thanks to the action of Second Amendment supporters all over the country, their schemed failed -- even despite my Republican Primary opponent, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham. ... In fact, its one BIG reason Im running for the U.S. Senate. And today, Im announcing that my campaign is giving away a brand new Palmetto Armory AR-15!"
Bright asked supporters to forward the email "to every pro-gun friend and family member you have."
The drawing for the rifle that goes for $600-$800 will be held at 5 p.m. Feb. 15.
"I know the anti-gun media may hate it," the email says. "I know the political talking heads may sneer as they continue blaming guns and law-abiding gun owners for the acts of thugs and madmen. But I am THE pro-gun, pro-Constitution candidate in this race for the U.S. Senate -- and I cant think of a better way to get that word out than by giving away a brand new AR-15."
In addition to registering the gun sweepstakes, Bright suggests a small donation to his campaign to unseat Graham, a Seneca Republican: "Wont you please agree to your most generous contribution right away?"
