SC Road conditions - Wed/Thur overnight icing expected.

January 28, 2014

— In it's latest report on road conditions, released at 12:00 am Thursday, the South Carolina Department of Transportation warned drivers Thursday morning to be alert for icy road conditions.

Temperatures were expected to dip below freezing in many areas of the state including the Midlands. "Travel on secondary roads will likely be treacherous and is not recommended unless absolutely necessary,' SCDOT said in the release.

In Charleston, the Ravenel Bridge was the only bridge that remained closed to traffic Wednesday night.

"Resources are being focused on the Ravenel Bridge," SCDOT said. In addition, state officials urged restricting all pedestrian and bicycling traffic on the bridge until the ice melts.

"There is a very real concern for pedestrian and bicycle traffic on the Ravenel Bridge for falling ice from the overhead cables," the release said.
