RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — A 40-year-old woman has been charged with murder in the beating death of an elderly Lower Richland man.
Holly Jo Thompson was arrested Tuesday at her home, according to a news release from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, accused of beating James Solomon, 71. Solomon died of blood loss due to multiple blunt and sharp force injuries, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said.
Thompson and Solomon were acquaintances, and Thompson frequented Solomon’s home, the sheriff’s department reported. Both lived on Lower Richland Boulevard. The two had gotten into an argument that turned physical, the sheriff’s report said.
Solomon’s body was discovered Monday afternoon by Richland County sheriff’s deputies who had been called to the house.
The news release said investigators arrested Thompson after obtaining information from witnesses and after crime scene investigators found crucial evidence at the scene.
Thompson is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
