— UPDATE: Fort Jackson announces resumption of normal operations Thursday. All key and essential personnel should report at normal time Thursday. All others should report no later than 8:30 a.m. On post schools will open at their normal time.

The threat of snow hitting Columbia by around noon has caused Fort Jackson to issue a notice saying it will stop normal operations at the base at 11 a.m.

“Only key and essential personnel will remain,” said the press release issued this morning.

Fort Jackson’s Department of Defense schools will close at 11:30 a.m.

The base requested all soldiers and civilians with children at child development centers to pick them up as soon as possible after 11 a.m.

Parents will also be contacted when this goes into effect, the press release said.
