Wednesday letters: City considering another bad deal

January 29, 2014

— So Columbia officials woke up one morning thinking the city was the federal government, so they decided to spend citizens’ money — taxes, bonds and water and sewer revenues — in order to convert the property on Bull Street into a tax-generating entity.

Never mind that the Environmental Protection Agency has sanctioned the city because of its failure to maintain the water and sewer system; never mind that there has been no mention of the traffic snarls that await hapless commuters; never mind that those of us outside the city limits are hostage to water rates and have absolutely no power to stop the city from its quixotic foolishness.

Oh, silly me. I’m forgetting the city’s previous forays into business ventures, such as AirSouth.
