Friday letters: Obamacare works for letter writer

January 31, 2014

I recently obtained health insurance for me and my husband through the Marketplace Exchange. Our health-insurance premiums were cut by more than half, and the quality of our new coverage far surpasses our previous coverage.

Had I listened to the negative narrative about the Affordable Care Act website and given up, we still would be paying high premiums with minimal benefits. However, with research and persistence, we prevailed. Consequently, as business owners, this decision has allowed us to maintain our staff by reducing overhead costs. I implore all citizens to learn about their own eligibility via the website.

We did experience system glitches initially, but received professional and friendly customer service via phone and from locally trained staff.

The best part is that no questions about pre-existing conditions were ever asked. What a blessing for those with chronic illnesses to no longer be declined for health insurance. As far as I am concerned, “Obamacare” is the best way to describe this new health insurance, because it is obvious that President Obama cares about everyone.
