Thursday letters: Lottery, video poker just alike

February 6, 2014

— I read that more gambling machines have been confiscated in Lexington County. While not a fan of video poker or any other type of machine gambling, I fail to understand the difference between it and the state-run lottery.

Gambling is gambling. The odds of winning money from a video-poker machine are probably better than from the lottery. I guess the primary reason one is legal and the other is not is that the state doesn’t like competition.
