Notre Dame, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Eric Atkins scored 16 points and Zach Auguste posted a double-double as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish survived in double overtime with a 68-64 win over the Clemson Tigers in ACC action at Purcell Pavilion.
Auguste finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Notre Dame (13-12, 4-8 ACC), which ended a two-game skid. Pat Connaughton added 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists and Steve Vasturia chipped in 11 points.
K.J. McDaniels recorded career-highs of 30 points and 14 rebounds to go with five blocks for Clemson (15-8, 6-5), which has lost back-to-back contests. Rod Hall tacked on 12 points for the Tigers.
Notre Dame got out to a 32-27 lead at halftime after shooting 44.4 percent from the floor in the first half. Clemson fell off the pace, connecting on only 37 percent from the floor.
The Irish let the Tigers back in during the final 20 minutes by cooling to 33.3 percent shooting. Clemson erased a 54-47 deficit over the final 2:49 with a layup from Hall, a pair of free-throws from Damarcus Harrison, a McDaniels' dunk and a final free-throw from Hall with four seconds to play.
Although Notre Dame never trailed in the first overtime, a layup from Hall and two free-throws from Landry Nnoko in the final 10 seconds allowed Clemson to send the game onward, tied at 60-60.
The Tigers took their first lead since the first half early in the second overtime when McDaniels knocked down a jumper. However the Irish took over from there, with Vasturia nailing a pair of 3-pointers to spark them to victory.
