Siberian folk lore is coming to the Midlands, but hopefully the cold weather and winter landscape of the remote land will be left behind. With colorful costumes and high-energy folk dancing, the Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia will take the stage tonight at the Newberry Opera House.
Featuring lavish costumes and swift dance patterns, the dance company shares with audiences the culture, landscape and art of their country. The 55 dancers, with their bold costumes and folk instruments, tell a fairy tale of the spiritual wealth and accomplishments of the Siberian people.
The Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company was founded in 1960 and has been performing worldwide on tours and at festival appearances. Their visit to the Newberry Opera House is part of the opera house’s Dufford Cultural Diversity Series.
The performance begins at 8 tonight. Tickets are available at newberryoperahouse.com or by calling (803) 276-6264. Tickets are $35 for general admission, and half-price for students. Group rates and dinner packages are also available.
