Home Depot’s hometown may be iced over for the moment, but that isn’t stopping the company from looking ahead to spring.

The Atlanta-based home improvement giant said Wednesday that is hiring more 80,000 temporary workers nationwide in anticipation of its big spring selling season, the busiest time of the year for the company.

Some of the jobs will transition to permanent employment, said spokesman Stephen Holmes.

The job news comes just days after the company opened a 1 million-square-foot “fulfillment center” south of Atlanta, one of three planned in the next 12 months.

Spring is busiest for the company as consumers ramp up yard work, including planting in gardens, building decks and pruning trees. They also take on indoor projects, such as painting and installing flooring.

The jobs are listed on the Web at http://www.careers.homedepot.com. All applicants must apply online, Home Depot said.

About 25 jobs so far are listed in South Carolina, though that number could change. About 20 percent of those jobs are in the Midlands.
